Understanding Diverse Learners in the WL Classroom

Examine the seven types of learners to better understand individual student behavior, student learning, and to guide more differentiated daily instruction. Understanding how our students can best learn and participate in class, makes the teacher experience less frustrating and more enjoyable. Teaching students to evaluate what type of learner they are offers a self-evaluative tool. Self-evaluation empowers students to study more efficiently, be more confident, and to be a more successful learner.

Identifying & Differentiating for High Ability Learners

NYS currently does not mandate funding or programming for students whose educational testing profile is far to the right of the bell curve. Some districts choose to offer programming including advancement, individualized instruction, and flexible assessments. Similar to special education students, the farther the testing is from the normal range, the more individualized the instruction may have to be and the more likely the need for social skills  and other supports will be present. Explore the variety of indicators,  the importance of  screening within your schools, and strategies for teaching high ability learners to increase equitable instruction for all students. Learn about the benefits to your school or district of adding accommodations for high ability learners
